In April 2010, nine
adventurous men will embark on a 120 kilometre trek to the
Nepalese Himalayas, climbing over 3,000 metres in elevation
to the Base Camp of Mount Everest. They are raising funds
under the banner of Everest Trekking Amal, a registered
charity initiative supported by the Community Development
Department (JAPEM), Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport and
Brunei Chess Federation (BCF). The mission is to help in
the construction of new homes for Brunei’s poor and
unfortunate families |

The Everest Trekking Amal is
attempting to raise BND $50,000 in donation. The entire
donation will be used to benefit the cause. |

The route will take the chess
players through the lush valleys trek. It will begin in
Lukla, and they will trek to the Sherpa capital of Namche
Bazaar, during which they will acclimatise themselves to the
altitude as they follow a trail across numerous rivers.
Thereafter, the trail will gradually lead uphill until
finally they reach the high point of Kalapathar at 5545
metres with its breathtaking panoramic views of the
surrounding peaks and glaciers, including Mount Everest. The
destination, Everest Base Camp at 5400 m will be reached
after a long two weeks treacherous trekking. |
